PHOENIX – As the Arizona Diamondbacks return home from a whirlwind of a road trip, manager Torey Lovullo reflected on his emotions following the Ketel Marte situation. The three-time All-Star skipped the August 17th game vs. the Boston Red Sox and essentially was radio silent to his teammates and manager.
On Friday, Lovullo spoke to the media on the emotional past four days and how his feelings have morphed from hurting for his player’s safety to feeling “betrayed” by how things have devolved.

Lovullo wears his emotion on his sleeves, but he made it clear that he’s through that feeling of betrayal and ready to move on. Marte was initially placed on the restricted list, but soon after had a meeting with Lovullo and general manager Mike Hazen at Salt River Field. On Thursday, he moved to the 10-day injured list, as the MRIs he took during his absence from the team showed inflammation in his upper hamstring and medial joint of knee.
Hazen expects Marte to rejoin the team once healthy and be welcome back following his stay on the 10-day IL.

The 10th-year manager isn’t the only one hurting from this situation, with many teammates of Marte talking to the media about wanting answers. Pitcher Kevin Ginkel stated it would be “nice” to hear an explanation, continuing about how a lot of players are frustrated on how it all transpired.
Whether Marte gives an explanation or answers for his recent behavior, the emotions are still fresh in the locker room. Lovullo believes he is past those feelings of betrayal, but it might linger longer than one might like given the circumstances.
