Cardinals’ Michael Wilson explains main reason for offensive success in 2026 preseason

GLENDALE – The 2025 Arizona Cardinals offense was a tough watch. One of the worst drive finishing units in the NFL, leading them to being 23rd in points with 20.9 a game. However, this preseason has been different. Through two games, the offense has been elite averaging 28.5 points and 396.5 total yards. While teams can’t take much stock with preseason results, wide receiver Michael Wilson is ready to believe.

Wilson spoke with the media on Sunday about the offense’s success and what led to the drastic difference in production. The 26-year-old threw praise to the quarterbacks, but he believes the main reason is because of head coach Mike LaFleur and the coaching staff.

Wilson praising QBs and coaching in preseason:

The ability to plug and play different players for similar results is the signs of a great system. LaFleur is coming from a Los Angeles Rams environment under head coach Sean McVay that runs his team like a well-oiled machine. The extensive talent pool doesn’t hurt, but LaFleur’s three years with McVay taught him how to get the best of his players. And in two preseason games, the 39-year-old looks to be taken the lessons well.

The Cardinals coaching staff have unlocked a lot of the passing games for the wide receivers. Wilson and the wide receiver unit have had many conversations with LaFleur and other coaches about how to get open and taking advantage of certain one-on-one opportunities. The biggest example was in goal line opportunities when Arizona ran multiple fade routes that resulted in touchdowns twice.

Finding the advantage is how a team wins in the NFL, and Wilson has noticed the team is doing that a lot more of that this preseason than in recent memory.
