PHOENIX – The intensity and attitude that Dillon Brooks brings to the court shine in his defensive abilities whenever he steps onto the court. When other stars around the league give credit where credit is due, even when they don’t want to, it speaks volumes.

Brooks was recently the topic of conversation when Klay Thompson appeared on a livestream with Plaqueboymax, who has more than 1.2 million followers. Thompson was asked about Brooks and gave the Suns forward a compliment that carried more weight because of the reluctance behind it. Thompson called Brooks a great defender in the league but admitted he hates giving him credit because Brooks is a ‘troll.’

Klay Thompson talks about Dillon Brooks on livestream:

Thompson knows exactly what Brooks is trying to accomplish when he steps onto the court. Brooks isn’t simply defending an opposing scorer. He is attempting to disrupt their rhythm, create frustration and make himself part of their mental battle. Thompson, one of the greatest shooters of his generation, understands that battle better than most. For Phoenix, that’s precisely why Brooks’ presence could matter beyond his individual statistics. The Suns have needed an identity that doesn’t disappear when shots aren’t falling. Brooks gives them an emotional edge and a defensive personality that can travel from game to game.

The impact Brooks brings shows up when an opposing star starts forcing shots. Sometimes it can be a confrontation that changes the energy inside an arena. Other moments it’s simply knowing that the defender across from you will make every possession uncomfortable. Thompson’s comments reinforce that Brooks’ reputation isn’t just manufactured. If one of the league’s elite shooters openly acknowledges Brooks’ defensive ability while admitting he doesn’t even want to give him the satisfaction, that’s a powerful endorsement. For the Suns, that is exactly the type of mentality that can help change a culture.
