After videos surfaced online of 49ers’ wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk telling his former college teammate Jayden Daniels “they [49ers] don’t want me back” for another season, rumors have begun to circulate about where the former ASU standout could land this fall.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!Among the five teams listed as potential landing spots for Aiyuk, the Arizona Cardinals were highlighted in a report by Cody Benjamin at CBS Sports.
Benjamin noted, “Arizona just spent a No. 4 overall pick on Marvin Harrison Jr., but Kyler Murray could still use more offensive weaponry as he enters Year y, eager to prove he can stay healthy and live up to a top-10 quarterback contract. Aiyuk, meanwhile, finished his college career at Arizona State and could cash in thanks to the Cardinals owning more than $35 million in 2024 salary cap space.”
The other teams listed in Benjamin’s potential landing spots report were the Los Angeles Chargers, New England Patriots, Washington Commanders, and Pittsburgh Steelers. All these teams are in desperate need of more offensive weapons, particularly at the wide receiver position.
Aiyuk became the 26th player out of Arizona State to be drafted in the first round of the NFL draft when the 49ers selected him 20th overall in 2020. Since then, he has steadily improved, increasing his total yards per season each year. In 2024, Aiyuk averaged a career-high 83.9 yards per game, catching passes from Arizona native Brock Purdy. The 26-year-old wrapped up last season with four games of over 100 yards receiving.
Reports suggest Aiyuk could demand more than $25 million this offseason.
Shortly after the 49ers fell to the Chiefs in the Super Bowl, Aiyuk’s girlfriend hinted that the star wide receiver’s time in San Francisco is likely over, declaring, “This might have been the last day we touched foot on Levi’s Stadium … because we might not be out here next season,” on a TikTok video.
