Even though star center Brittney Griner sustained a toe fracture to her left foot, the Phoenix Mercury will roll into their season opener against the Las Vegas Aces tonight with 11 players officially on the roster.

2024 Mercury Roster

C Brittney Griner

F/G Kahleah Copper

G Natasha Cloud

F/G Rebecca Allen

G Sug Sutton

F Natasha Mack

F Morgan Bertsch

F Kiki Herbert Harrigan

F Liz Dixon

G Diana Taurasi

Griner will be out indefinitely and won’t play vs. Las Vegas while Bertsch is probable. Depending on whether Bertsch does indeed play or miss the game, the Mercury will have nine or 10 players available.

Taurasi is set to begin her 20th season in the WNBA, all being with Phoenix. The Mercury icon is coming off of a 2023 season in which she averaged 16 points, 4.6 assists and 3.6 rebounds in 26 games.

Allen, Bertsch and Copper were all traded to Phoenix while Cloud signed during free agency. Cloud and Copper are expected to be game-changers for the Mercury as they both have won WNBA championships and have had elite careers prior to coming to the Valley.

About to make her second stint in Phoenix, they signed Dixon just after they waived seven players on Saturday. She played 10 games, averaging 2.3 points, 1.3 rebounds and 0.1 assists last season.

Originally re-signing with the Mercury to training camp deals, Sutton, Herbert Harrigan and Mack made the opening night roster.

Despite sitting out for Phoenix’s last preseason game against the Los Angeles Sparks with an elbow injury, Cunningham is returning for her sixth season in the WNBA.

At Michelob Ultra Arena in Vegas, the Mercury face the Aces at 7 p.m. PT tonight. The game will be televised on ESPN2 and streamed on ESPN+/Disney+.
