Casteel baseball comes out on top in heavyweight matchup with Hamilton

In Thursday’s matchup between two of the state’s top baseball programs, the Casteel Colts defeated the Hamilton Huskies 13-10.

The Colts (17-6) have now won three straight and 10 of their last 12 games.

Casteel is coming off a dominating season where the team finished with a 27-6 record and was crowned as 5A Champions following a victory over Catalina Foothills.

They have now continued that success into this season and are looking to repeat as champs.

Multiple Casteel Baseball Players Becoming Arizona Wildcats

Defeating the Huskies (19-5), who currently rank as the number one high school baseball team in Arizona according to MaxPreps, further shows how dominant of a team Casteel is. The Colts are ranked as the No. 1 team in the 5A and the No. 4 team in the state.

After trailing Hamilton 6-1 following the first two innings, Casteel put together a six-run third inning and took back the lead. The two teams then entered extra innings tied up 9-9, before the Colts scored four runs and iced the game.

Senior outfielder Tyler Russell hit a grand slam, putting his team up over the Huskies. Seniors pitchers Tyler Hatch and Mason Russell have combined for an 8-2 record when starting this season.

In the first of the team’s final regular season three-game stretch, Casteel will travel to face the Williams Field Black Hawks (13-10). The game will take place on Thursday, April 18 at 3:45 p.m. MST.

The Colts are looking to extend their win streak and finish the season off strong before heading into the 5A conference playoffs.
