Although it was not much different from how the past week has gone, the Diamondbacks managed to break their five-game losing streak with a narrow 3-2 victory against the Colorado Rockies.

Consistent with the season’s offensive struggles, the D-backs’ bats fell silent after scoring three runs in the first two innings.

With Ketel Marte getting a rest day, Corbin Carroll picked up his 1st home run of the season, which somehow found its way over the left field bleachers.

Arizona grabbed an early lead with two runs in the 1st inning, marking the eighth time this season they’ve scored 2+ runs in the opening inning, a significant lead over the next closest team with just three instances.

The sole distinction between tonight’s game and their recent five-game losing streak lay in the performance of the bullpen, which had been shaky. Tonight, it settled down, preserving Arizona’s lead. Merrill Kelly set the tone with six solid innings, allowing only two earned runs.

Following Kelly, Ryan Thompson, Kyle Nelson, and Kevin Ginkel combined for three shutout innings, compensating for the D-backs’ lackluster offense in the latter stages of the game.

On a brighter note, Gabriel Moreno broke out of a recent slump with a 4-5 night at the plate. Moreno nearly matched his hit total on the season, as he started the year with just five hits in 31 at-bats.

The Diamondbacks will aim to secure a series win over the Rockies tomorrow afternoon at 12:10 PM.
