Brenton Doyle, Ezequiel Tovar, Nolan Jones and Charlie Blackmon all had two RBIs each for the Rockies (1-2). Starting pitcher Austin Gomber pitched 4.2 innings and gave up four runs on six hits in Colorado’s first win of the season.

Lourdes Gurriel Jr. and Eugenio Suárez both went 2-for-3 at the plate for the Diamondbacks (2-1). Tommy Henry surrendered five runs on six hits and struck out four Rockies in 4.0 innings of work.

Turn of the Tide

Igniting their offense early, Gurriel Jr. and Gabriel Moreno both drove home two RBIs for a 2-0 D’Backs lead in the bottom of the first inning.

Answering right back, Tovar launched a two-run homer to left-center field in the top of the second to tie the game 2-2.

During the bottom of the fourth, Suárez powered a solo shot in the same vicinity as Tovar, grabbing the lead for the Diamondbacks again, 3-2.

Henry found himself in a jam in the top of the fifth, and couldn’t get out of it.

With no outs, Charlie Blackmon was just able to keep the ball fair, hitting a two-run double near the right foul line. Immediately after, Henry’s start was over as Luis Frías replaced him.

Not fazed by the pitching change, Jones smacked a two-run triple to right field before Ryan McMahon popped a sacrifice fly for Jones to score for the Rockies, adding to the margin 7-3.

Then for the third straight game, Gurriel Jr. homered to shrink the deficit, 7-4. He hit a home run in each of the first two games of the season as well.

However, Doyle added to the Rockies’ offensive barrage with an eight-inning, two-run home run, making it 9-4.

Both these teams will wrap up a four-game series against one another on Sunday at 1:10 p.m. PT.
