Jace Peterson batted in two RBI’s while José Herrera, Alek Thomas and Lourdes Gurriel Jr. each had one for the D’Backs (1-1). Both Peterson and Thomas went 2-for-3 at the plate.

On the mound, Ryne Nelson recorded his first victory of Spring Training after pitching two innings with five strikeouts and two hits allowed. The Diamondbacks pitching staff as a whole gave up two runs on seven hits.

Yanquiel Fernandez homered and Jordan Beck connected on an RBI single for the Rockies (1-1). Noah Davis gave up one run on three hits in two innings before Joe Rock had a rough outing as Arizona scored five runs on four hits in his two innings of work.

In the bottom of the first inning, Peterson singled to center field to drive home Thomas for a 1-0 Diamondbacks lead.

Doubling up in the bottom of the third, Peterson would hit a rare ground-rule double for Thomas to score again.

Three batters later, Herrera singled to right for Peterson to come home to make it 3-0.

The chaotic inning didn’t stop there as Rock threw a wild pitch before Jordan Lawlar scored.

If his performance couldn’t get anymore shaky, Rock’s day went from bad to worse in the bottom of the fourth.

Thomas extended the D’Backs lead to 5-0 with a ground out to second base as Tristin English dashed for another run.

Gurriel Jr. hit a sacrifice fly so that Kristian Robinson could score to go up 6-0.

Beck would then break the Diamondbacks’ shutout with a ground ball that headed to right field, and Bradley Zimmer went home.

Fernandez powered a solo homerun to right off of Andrew Saalfrank, but that the final piece of scoring from the top of the sixth onwards, finishing the game 6-2 Arizona.
