LSU was once known for having a great defense year in and year out. This is not the case anymore as they had the 80th ranked defense in college football this season. They allowed 27.8 points per game.

Offense Wins Games Too

It is very hard to win games consistently with a defense that is giving up that many points each week. The best way to overcome a bad defense is with a great offense.

Former Arizona State quarterback Jayden Daniels led LSU’s offense to the top ranking in college football. The Tigers averaged 45.5 points per game.

The Season No One Saw Coming

Daniels had one of the best seasons in college football history. He threw for 3,812 yards, 40 touchdowns and only four interceptions while completing 72.2% of his passes.

The San Bernardino, California native was also a huge part of the run game for LSU. He ran for 1,134 yards and 10 touchdowns.

This incredible season led to Daniels winning the Heisman Trophy. He became the third player in LSU history to win the prestigious award.

The Future Is Bright

The last LSU Tiger to win the award was quarterback Joe Burrow who went on to become the first overall pick in the 2020 NFL draft for the Cincinnati Bengals.

Burrow is now considered one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL. Can Daniels have a similar trajectory for his career?

The odds of Daniels being picked first overall are low with University of Southern California quarterback Caleb Williams and North Carolina quarterback Drake Maye also being in the draft. Daniels is projected to go anywhere from third overall to tenth overall depending on who is doing the projecting.

The Heisman trophy winner may not be the first overall pick like Burrow but he did make a similar jump from his junior to senior season and may be the quarterback who makes the biggest impact in the 2024 NFL draft.

Daniels obviously made the right decision by transferring to LSU. ASU fans have to wonder if he could of done the same thing in a Sun Devil uniform and will his success elsewhere reflect negatively on the program? Only time will tell.
