The Mountain Ridge Mountain Lions Varsity Baseball team looks to capitalize on their successful season that got cut short.

Mountain Ridge Dominates

The Mountain Lions finished the season with a 24-6 record and made it to the third round of the 6A playoffs. However, they were knocked out with losses to both Hamilton and O’Connor.

They started the season out on fire, as they won 16 out of their first 17 games and outscored opponents 204-101

While their season did not end the way they wanted, it gave the team much-needed experience and confidence for the future.

As with every school, the team lost several key players to graduation in May.

This included their top three hit leaders Cannon Peery, Cooper Neville, and Cooper Holtorf.

Despite the losses, Mountain Ridge has more than enough talent to compensate for them. One of the players who has to step up for the Mountain Lions is current senior infielder/pitcher Jackson Forbes. Forbes finished the season with 29 hits and 23 RBIs.

Season Outlook

Even with falling short of a championship last season and losing multiple key pieces, the Mountain Lions should once again be looked at as a contender this upcoming season.

Led by senior pitcher Smith Bailey, who went 10-1 for the team and had an absurd 1.41 ERA last season.

Keep a close eye on one of the most talented and well-coached teams in the 6A and the entire state of Arizona.
