Following an unexpected weather delay that granted an additional day of rest, Zac Gallen took the mound and delivered a stellar performance against the Yankees, effectively evening the series.

Gallen entered Sunday coming off back-to-back disappointing starts, but today he left the Yankees hitters completely lost as they tallied just three hits off the Diamondbacks ace.

And on the flip side, the Diamondbacks started quick with a pair of runs in the top of the first.

Gabriel Moreno and Corbin Carroll picked up two base hits and eventually scored to give Arizona an early 2-0 lead.

From that point onward, Arizona’s offensive momentum continued to build, primarily fueled by the top of their batting order. Corbin Carroll, Tommy Pham, and Christian Walker collectively contributed to four of the Diamondbacks’ seven runs.

It was not until the 9th inning with two outs where the Yankees finally got on the scoreboard. However, New York then stranded the bases loaded to end the game.

With this win, the Diamondbacks now hold a full one-game lead over the Cubs for the second Wild Card spot.

Merrill Kelly will start tomorrow for Arizona to wrap up their series against the Yankees at 10:05 AM.
