Sundays game saw a pitchers matchup of Zac Gallen for the Diamondbacks facing off against Jack Flahery of the Orioles. Gallen would go on to throw 5.1 innings giving up 5 earned runs on eight hits. This is Gallen’s second appearance in a row where he gave up 8+ hits and 5+ runs.

Kyle Nelson would come in to relieve Gallen and give up three earned runs on three hits without recording an out. The rest of the bullpen calmed down Baltimores offense though, not allowing a single run and three hits the rest of the game.

Offensively the Diamondbacks swung the bats well. Four of Arizonas five runs came in RBI fashion. The Diamondbacks also hit three home runs in the contest. But ultimately it wasn’t enough to get the win.

Carroll continues to look like his all star self

Corbin Carroll showed out for the Diamondbacks, being one of two Diamondbacks hitters to get two hits in the ball game. Carroll crossed the plate twice, hit a home run and additionally added an RBI with it. The Diamondbacks outfielder boosted his batting average to .282. Lourdes Gurriel Jr was the other Diamondback with multiple hits. Gurriel jr went 2-4, also hitting a home run in the first inning, and a double in the eighth.

The ball game included a total of 10 pitchers on the mound, five from each opponent. Bryce Jarvis continues to open eyes, though. Jarvis threw two relief innings, only giving up one hit with no runs, and two strikeouts.

Arizona’s has division opponent Colorado Rockies next, for a three game set in Phoenix. First pitch is Monday (9/4) at 1:10. Merrill Kelly will be on the hill for the Diamondbacks and Peter Lambert for the Rockies.
