After being absent since July 25th, the Arizona Diamondbacks are set to welcome slugger Evan Longoria back to the lineup, as he has been reinstated from the 10-day IL.

Initially, it appeared that Longoria would make a swift return, considering it was merely a minor back issue. However, the former All-Star encountered a slight setback along the way.

And this setback was triggered in one of the more unconventional ways imaginable.

Longoria reportedly reinjured his back after standing up from the toilet, per the Arizona Republic:

“I actually just re-aggravated it while getting up off the toilet,” Longoria said. “Which makes me feel and sound really old. It was a really weird thing, man.”

Before landing on the IL, Longoria watched his batting average dip to .238, likely a consequence of a slump induced by his lingering back pain.

During the month of July, the slugger struggled, posting a .167 batting average with only 5 hits recorded in the 13 games he played in.

However, while Evan Longoria may not be at his prime form at the plate, the Diamondbacks have witnessed glimpses of his former youthfulness from the 37-year-old.

For instance, in the month of June, Longoria showcased a resurgence, coming close to earning the player of the month title with an impressive .342 batting average and four home runs.

In exchange for bringing up the veteran, the D-backs opted to send outfielder Kyle Lewis down to Triple-A Reno.
