The Arizona State football team looked much better this morning after a penalty-filled day of practice yesterday.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe! These penalties were caused in part by coach Kenny Dillingham and his staff implementing new cadences, so they viewed yesterday as more of a learning day.
The Sun Devils made a lot less errors today in a day that, according to Dillingham, was designed for offensive success and the defense to face adversity.
Yesterday, Dillingham harped on the fact that his defense had passion, but the offense did not. Today, he said they responded well.
“It’s okay to fail, as long as you respond, and that’s what these last two days have been about,” Dillingham said.
Jaden Rashada and Trenton Bourguet once again split reps with the first and second team with Drew Pyne’s injury. Whether this is just to speed Rashada up to being the direct backup or actually giving him a shot to compete with Bourguet has not been discovered yet.

Dillingham had a lengthy post-practice interview, where he touched on these topics, as well as the team’s overall play, where he gets his passion and competitive edge from, his style choice, how he will decide captains and much more.
I also spoke with defensive coordinator Brian Ward, senior CB Jordan Clark and freshman CB Keith Abney, mostly discussing how well the defense has been performing as of late and the impressive play by the young players, like Abney.
I will have an in-depth breakdown of yesterday’s and today’s practice coming soon, as I tracked all of the team drills. Stories on Abney and a big closed scrimmage tomorrow will also be out tonight.
