Cecconi was drafted in the first round of the 2020 draft by Arizona. Since then, he has slowly worked his way up through the minor league system. He is now the Diamondbacks #9 prospect per MLB Pipeline.

In Triple-A this year, Cecconi has had a decent past couple of starts, but his season stats are still not the best. Through 20 appearances, the 24-year-old has posted a 6.38 ERA and holds a record of 4-8.

However, with Tommy Henry and Zach Davies on the IL, the Diamondbacks are extremely limited in their choices.

Injuries have been killers all year for Arizona, especially in the starting rotation. Cecconi will be the fourth rookie to start a game for the Diamondbacks this season.

First pitch for the D-backs matchup against the Giants is scheduled for 6:40. A win would give Arizona a chance to grab their first series victory in over two weeks.
