Ahead of their series finale against Seattle on Sunday, the Arizona Diamondbacks placed SP Tommy Henry on the 15-day IL due to left elbow inflammation.

This is yet another major blow to a Diamondbacks pitching staff that has been battling injuries all summer. Henry will join Zach Davies on the IL, leaving the Diamondbacks once again with just four official starters.

Tommy Henry this season has been one of the few bright spots in Arizona’s young rotation. In 16 starts, the rookie has posted a 4.15 ERA and a 5-4 record.

To replace Henry, the Diamondbacks reinstated RHP Cole Sulser, who was previously put on the IL back in April.

Arizona wasted no time putting Sulser back to work as the 33-year-old was brought in to pitch in relief against the Mariners on Sunday. With the Diamondbacks already trailing 3-0, Sulser allowed one run on two hits in the ninth inning.

With just one more day until the trade deadline, the clock is ticking for GM Mike Hazen. As the Diamondbacks slide further out of playoff contention, they cannot afford to not add another starter to their rotation.
