The Arizona Diamondbacks have made the decision to promote OF Dominic Canzone after a red-hot June with the Reno Aces.

This season with the Aces, Canzone has posted a .354 batting average, matched with 16 home runs and a whopping 71 RBIs.

During June, Canzone led the league with a .430 batting average on 34 hits and nine doubles. This outstanding stretch led to the 25-year-old being named Pacific Coast League Player of the Month.

Dominic Canzone will switch places with Dominic Fletcher, whom the Diamondbacks have sent back down to Triple-A. Fletcher was called up just last week, but given how well Canzone has swung the bat lately, and the recent slump that Arizona has fallen into, the Diamondbacks are attempting to shuffle things around to get back on track.

Lastly, the D-backs have placed Drey Jameson on the 15-day IL due to right elbow inflammation. This is a major blow to the Diamondbacks bullpen, considering Jameson has settled into a nice groove as of late. Up until Jameson’s two runs allowed against the Mets on Thursday, the 25-year-old held a 9.2-inning scoreless streak spanning across three outings.

The Diamondbacks are currently in the midst of a four-game losing streak, their longest of the season. This streak has caused their lead over the Dodgers for first place in the NL West to shrink to just .5 games.

On the bright side, just one series remains before an All-Star break that the D-backs may need more than anything. It will be Zac Gallen on the mound tonight against the Pirates, who will attempt to get his team back on track.

First pitch is scheduled for 6:40 PM.
