It is hard to imagine a team hitting rock bottom and still holding the top spot in their division, but the Arizona Diamondbacks have done it.

The Diamondbacks suffered their first ever shutout of the season as they fell to the Mets 9-0. The loss also cemented their longest losing streak of the season at four games.

Arizona is now 4-8 in their past 12 games and holds just a .5-game lead over the Dodgers for first place in the NL West.

However, this is just the tip of the iceberg for a team that seemed to be on top of the world just two weeks ago.

Rookie All-Star Corbin Carroll exited early on Thursday after taking a hefty hack on a low, off-speed pitch. It was the second time that Carroll left a game early due to shoulder discomfort.

While he did return to the dugout, Diamondbacks’ manager Torey Lovullo confirmed that the rookie will receive an MRI on Friday.

Additionally, lately the Diamondbacks bullpen has been stirring up a handful of questions as nothing seems to be going right in the second half of games.

Not to mention, the starting pitching carousel has been tough to watch all year. With Merrill Kelly on the IL and Zac Gallen in a bit of a slump, the Diamondbacks have been forced to rely on a rotation of three different rookies to get the job done.

When you combine the injuries that have compounded lately with the inconsistency in the bullpen, it has been abundantly clear that the D-backs need to make some moves ahead of the trade deadline.

Thankfully for Arizona, just a three-game series against the Pirates remains before the All-Star break. This series will begin Friday night at 6:40 PM with Zac Gallen on the mound.
