Despite over 40,000 people packed into Chase Field for some 4th of July fireworks, the Diamondbacks failed to get the big hit, resulting in an 8-5 loss to the Mets.

The afternoon began with a two-out solo home run from Corbin Carroll in the bottom of the first inning.

Starting on the mound for Arizona was Zach Davies, who was coming off back-to-back excellent starts. Davies seemed to be heading down a similar road up until the 4th inning when the Mets finally broke through offensively.

A two-out, three-run home run from Starling Marte gave New York a 3-1 lead.

However, the Diamondbacks responded, just like they have all season, with a pair of solo shots from Chrisitan Walker and Lourdes Gurriel Jr. to tie the ballgame at three apiece.

The two teams would go on to exchange another run in the 5th inning before the Diamondbacks bats would ultimately go quiet for the rest of the afternoon.

On the other hand, the Mets would score runs in the final three innings off a Diamondbacks bullpen that has consistently been shaky this year.

Miguel Castro allowed two earned runs in the 7th, Austin Adams allowed one in the 8th, and finally, Jose Ruiz allowed one more in 9th.

Meanwhile, the Diamondbacks could not figure out a way to get the much-needed clutch hit with runners in scoring position.

Following the two solo bombs in the 4th inning, Arizona would leave a whopping nine runners on the basepaths. This includes leaving the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth.

The Diamondbacks will be back in action tomorrow night at 6:40. Tommy Henry will take the mount, hoping to end his team’s current two-game skid.
