Don’t look now, but the offseason is in full swing and another rumor is out there for the taking. This time it involves, the Phoenix Suns and 7x all-star player Damian Lillard.

There has been a report speculating that the Suns could be looking for ways to acquire Lillard this offseason after the report came out yesterday regarding Chris Paul and his future with the Suns.

According to Heavy.com’s Sean Deveney, an Eastern Conference executive believes that the Suns are freeing up payroll to see if they can land the future Hall of Fame point guard.

“There is a lot that can happen there,” the executive said. “The Suns need depth all over that roster. They want to free up their payroll. They want to see if there is a way to bring in Dame. They want to see what they can do with a Deandre Ayton deal. There is a lot on the table. And the [Los Angeles] Lakers need to know where they are going with [D’Angelo] Russell. They’re not just letting him walk. They traded a pick for him. And who knows if they could get Chris to sign a vet minimum deal or what?”

Even if Lillard is made for trade, I don’t think the Suns have the cap space and acquisitions to make a deal happen. They got 8 players returning this season as well as 4 of them making more than half the team’s salary.

The Suns’ main focus is to try to find a way to not pass the second apron threshold as well as acquire as many depth players as possible via trade.

I definitely think the Suns are going to make a trade this offseason, it just won’t be for Damian Lillard.
