Phoenix Suns Bench, Impressive

Phoenix Suns
Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

The Phoenix Suns are off to a good start through the first week of the season. The bench comes into the game and gives huge production, allowing the starters to stay fresh for that fourth quarter push. Phoenix Suns currently sit at 3-1 and sit at 3rd in the Western Conference.

Phoenix Suns Bench By the Numbers

Damion Lee leads the bench in minutes with 19.5 minutes a game, bringing energy and shut down defense. Lee also averages 6.5 points per game, which is amazing as an defensive specialist.

Cameron Payne is probably the fan favorite off of the bench for the Suns, he and Jock Landale both average 16 minutes per game and are the top scorers of the second unit.

Payne averages 7.5 points and 2.3 assist per game through the first four games. Landale averages 9.8 points per game and 5.8 rebounds.

Torrey Craig and Landry Shamet round out the second unit for the Phoenix Suns. Both averaging around 5 points per game.

Suns Cohesiveness as a Whole

The beauty of this run that the Phoenix Suns are on going back to when they first hired Monty Williams as head coach is the unselfishness and cohesiveness a whole.

No matter who is on the court for this team, they play together, they play hard, and they play for each other. The Suns have maybe the best second unit in the league as far as the drop off from the starters, production wise.

The leaders and starters humbleness set the tone. Any and everybody on this team can and will step up at any moment. It shows how prepared this team is for every situation they can face through a game.

A different player either a starter or second unit takes over night in and night out. Which is why for the most part this team has been successful.

Devin Booker, Mikal Bridges, and Chris Paul are definitely the core. The role players and second unit add the glue and uniqueness to this roster.
