Deandre Ayton Foul Trouble:

Deandre Ayton picked up his third foul at the 8 minute mark of the second quarter which forced head coach Monty Williams to send him to the bench to preserve him for the second half. Ayton has 4 points to go along with 2 rebounds in this game. He was looking really good before he got into foul trouble and it unfortunately cost the Suns a big void in the paint on defense as Dallas has been attacking them offensively all night long.

Three Point Shooting Woes and Bench Scoring:

Outside of missing Ayton’s presence in the paint, they have also been getting outscored from the three point line tonight 8 to 2. The Suns are shooting 47.1 percent from three while the Suns are shooting 20 percent from three. In today’s modern game, three point shooting is key to win and this part destroyed the Sun’s against this team last year in the playoffs. The suns depth also hasn’t shown up today as the Mavericks are outscoring the Suns depth 17-7 going into the second half.

Last Year’s Playoff Woes:

The talk coming into tonight’s game was can the Suns exact revenge on a Mavericks team that embarrassed them on the floor in last year’s playoffs. So far the answer is no as a lot of similarities have transpired tonight as the Suns trail by 17 points going into the second half. They’re getting outplayed on defense, getting out rebounded and the Mavs have shot 21 more free throws. The Suns look like a team that’s still holding on to last year’s playoff loss.

Monty Williams is going to have to make some adjustments for his team to get back in this game. Second half begins in 15 minutes.
