The MLB has shown time and time again that their plans to expand their visibility to the rest of the world, are pretty profitable. They just ended their well promoted two-game series in Tokyo, as it was viewed by over 25 million people on Tuesday’s game, and 23 million respectively on Wednesday’s matchup. That wasn’t their only plans this season when it comes to bringing other MLB franchises abroad. Two upcoming exhibition games in Mexico this season will be featuring the Boston Red Sox vs Sultanes de Monterrey. Although they seem to have lofty goals in this whole global campaign, MLB pulled back on plans to play in San Juan, Puerto Rico and Mexico City earlier this season.

D-backs president and CEO Derrick Hall spoke about the possibility:

“We’re in favor of international, and I know there’s a lot of countries that have interest in us playing.” It wouldn’t be the first time either. Dating back to 2014, the D-Backs went up against their rival, the Los Angeles Dodgers, in Sydney, Australia! Who else is better to play there than the snakes? They have had other opportunities in the past recently. Unfortunately, the scheduled two-game, regular season series against the San Diego Padres in Mexico City, was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic back in 2020.

Head coach Torey Lovullo also mentioned, “If Derrick and Ken (Kendrick) made that decision to bring us into a situation where we promote baseball, and specifically Arizona Diamondback baseball, I’m all for it.”
