The Arizona Cardinals are still looking to bring in more help on the defensive line after losing BJ Ojulari to an ACL tear.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!According to ESPN’s Field Yates, Arizona hosted free agent defensive end Carl Lawson for a tryout Wednesday. The Cardinals already signed veteran edge rusher Marquis Haynes Sr. to a one-year deal yesterday following Ojulari’s injury last week.
Some notable tryouts around the NFL today included:
Cardinals: DE Carl Lawson
Browns: OT Cameron Fleming
49ers: WR Robbie Chosen, S Rudy Ford, Tracy Walker— Field Yates (@FieldYates) August 7, 2024
Lawson has played six NFL seasons since being drafted in the fourth round out of Auburn in 2017. His last two seasons were spent with the New York Jets after playing his first four with the Cincinnati Bengals. The 29 year old has accumulated 119 tackles, 28 tackles for loss, 27 sacks and three forced fumbles in 74 career NFL games (31 starts).
After tearing his Achilles and missing the entire 2021 season, Lawson started 17 games for New York in 2022 and had 33 tackles and seven sacks. He only played in 101 snaps last season due to a back injury and recorded five tackles before the Jets voided his contract in February.
In Arizona’s first official depth chart of the 2024 preseason, Dennis Gardeck and Zaven Collins were the team’s two starting outside linebackers with Jesse Luketa and Victor Dimukeje as the top backups. Haynes will look to fit into this equation as well, and we will see if the Cardinals do decide to add Lawson.
