Sean Burroughs was the son of 1974 American League MVP Jeff Burroughs and after a great amateur career was selected ninth overall by the San Diego Padres in the 1998 MLB Draft. He debuted on April 2, 2002, and hit .278 with 12 home runs and a .690 OPS in 528 MLB games.
Once a former top draft pick and prospect whose life spiraled out of control after failing to meet expectations, Burroughs authored an impressive comeback chapter to his career. After three years out of professional baseball and living homeless in Las Vegas, he cleaned up his life and made a successful return to the major leagues for a couple seasons. He signed a minor league deal with the Arizona Diamondbacks before the 2011 season.
After failing to make the club out of spring, Burroughs began the season with Triple-A Reno, where he hit .412 in 34 games before getting called up to the big league roster. He appeared in 78 games for the National League West Champion Diamondbacks, hitting .273 in 78 games with a home run. That home run wound up being the last of his MLB career.
