Gallen, a known Jordan fan who dons #23 on his own jersey, also played for UNC Chapel Hill during his college days.
After being drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 3rd round of the 2016 draft, he made his MLB debut at 23 years old.
So far during this playoff run with the Diamondbacks, Gallen has been excellent on the mound, providing his team with two strong starts.
In the Wild Card round, Gallen allowed two earned runs through six innings, which was enough to help lead his team to a 5-2 win.
Then, in the National League Divisional Series, Gallen replicated this performance, contributing to another Diamondbacks win.
Next up for Arizona’s ace is arguably the biggest start of his five-year career.
On Monday, Gallen will take the mound in Citizens Bank Park in front of a rowdy Phillies crowd with a chance to give the Diamondbacks a 1-0 series lead in the NLCS.
Ironically, Zac grew up and went to high school just 15 minutes away from Citizens Bank Park.
The first pitch for this Game 1 matchup is scheduled for Monday at 5:07 PM.
