After a thrilling Game 2 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers at Dodger Stadium, Zac Gallen, the Arizona Diamondbacks’ ace, channeled his inner Kobe Bryant by proclaiming, “Job’s not finished.”

This quote perfectly encapsulates the mindset of the Diamondbacks as they head back to Chase Field just one win away from a trip to the NLCS.

Gallen’s contributions during this postseason run have been nothing short of stellar, as he’s already notched two crucial victories on the mound, tallying an impressive 11.1 innings while allowing only four earned runs over the past five days.

However, with Gallen and Merrill Kelly having expended their efforts in the 1-2 punch rotation, the Diamondbacks must now place their trust in less familiar names to finish the job.

On Wednesday, back at Chase Field, Torey Lovullo has announced that it will be Brandon Pfaadt taking the mound for Arizona.

Pfaadt’s regular-season performance might raise some eyebrows, with a 5.72 ERA and a 3-9 record.

Notably, two of those losses came at the hands of the Dodgers, with Pfaadt conceding nine earned runs across 8.2 innings of play during those outings.

On the other hand, Pfaadt does have some postseason experience as the rookie started Game 1 of the Wild Card series for the Diamondbacks.

So, while just one more win is needed over the next three games, as Gallen wisely noted, the job is in fact not finished, and there’s more work to do.
