GLENDALE – The conversation surrounding Marvin Harrison Jr.’s offensive production in Arizona has officially moved beyond targets and statistics. Former NFL receiver T.J. Houshmandzadeh is now questioning whether Harrison and Cardinals head coach Mike LaFleur are even on the same page.

T.J. Houshmandzadeh speaks about Marvin Harrison Jr.:
Former Bengals star WR T.J. Houshmandzadeh said Cardinals HC Mike LaFleur does not appear to value Harrison Jr., pointing specifically to the coach repeatedly mentioning Trey McBride and the limited number of offensive plays available when discussing why Harrison Jr. has not received more opportunities. Houshmandzadeh also criticized Harrison Jr.’s effort, saying his routes appear to be running at half speed because he believes he will not receive the football.

His comments are shining a spotlight one the bigger problem facing Arizona. Harrison Jr. has played 77% of the Cardinals’ offensive snaps yet has only four targets through two games, with one reception for 33 yards, while Arizona’s offense has increasingly featured McBride, Michael Wilson, Kendrick Bourne and rookie running back Jeremiyah Love. LaFleur has pushed back on the effort narrative, saying Harrison’s running style is simply different and that his teammates do not view him as lacking effort.

That disagreement is what makes this situation worth watching. Arizona cannot simply manufacture targets for Harrison, but it also cannot afford for the fourth overall pick of the 2024 draft to become an afterthought in an offense that desperately needs explosive playmakers. The question is no longer just, “Why isn’t Marv getting the ball? It is whether Arizona can get Harrison Jr. and the offense moving in the same direction before frustration becomes the defining story of his Cardinals career.
