DENVER — Corbin Carroll’s speed and power are two of the defining parts of his game.
Those traits stood out when the Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder arrived on the scene, and they have remained a constant throughout his early career. But his speed, especially, helped Carroll reach another milestone that put him in extraordinarily rare company.

Carroll tripled in the first inning of Arizona’s 5-3 win over the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field, giving him 60 career triples — leading all active players in just his fourth season.
According to MLB’s Sarah Langs, the milestone makes Carroll just the second player in MLB history to record at least 60 triples and 100 home runs within his first 640 games. The only other player to accomplish the feat?
New York Yankees legend Lou Gehrig.

The achievement further highlights the unusual combination of speed and power Carroll has brought to the Diamondbacks since arriving in the majors, a blend that only a select few players have been able to produce at this pace.
More importantly, the triple came at a critical time for Arizona as the D-Backs continue to fight for their postseason lives.

Arizona entered Wednesday fighting to stay alive, and the victory kept the Snakes from being eliminated. With four games remaining, Arizona moved within three games of the third wild-card spot.
As the season comes down to the wire, every contribution matters. Carroll’s career has been built on his ability to turn his speed into extra bases and impact plays.

And with Arizona still fighting for its postseason life, there may not be a better time for Carroll’s trademark speed to matter.
