PHOENIX – The attention surrounding Miles Bridges has shifted away from basketball yet again. According to TMZ, Mychelle Johnson, the mother of Bridges’ children, has been accused of assault and battery in North Carolina following an alleged incident during a custody exchange on June 22. The report states Johnson is facing a misdemeanor charge after she allegedly threw water on Bridges in front of their children. TMZ also reported that legal documents claim Bridges told authorities Johnson had previously warned she would throw water on him if another argument occurred. According to those same documents, Bridges stated he is “scared for my kids’ safety.”

The report further states that Bridges previously obtained a temporary restraining order after alleging Johnson engaged in cyberstalking and attempted to interfere with his vehicle at one of his games. TMZ reported Johnson denied those allegations. At this stage, these are allegations contained in legal filings, and the reported misdemeanor charge remains a legal matter that will move through the judicial process.

For the Suns, the timing underscores a reality every NBA front office faces: acquiring talent also means navigating everything that comes with the individual. Organizations invest significant assets not only in production but also in long-term availability, continuity, and organizational stability. Phoenix’s trade was designed to reshape its competitive window. While the legal process is separate from basketball operations, developments surrounding key players inevitably become part of the conversation because they can influence team focus, public perception and organizational planning. It’s another reminder that building a playoff contender in the NBA requires managing far more than what happens between the lines on the court.
