GLENDALE – There are only three NFL coaching vacancies left, and despite the scarcity, the Arizona Cardinals just lost one of their top names. Entering Week 3 of the franchise’s coaching search, reports have explained that a top three has emerged to be the 44th head coach in team’s history: Mike LaFleur, Anthony Weaver and Anthony Campanile.

Arizona had dinner with LaFleur last night, but the job still isn’t guaranteed to the Rams offensive coordinator. However, Campanile might’ve took it that way, as the Jacksonville Jaguars announced that their defensive coordinator is returning to Duval.

Jaguars announce retaining Campanile:

With Campanile out of the race, it becomes a one-horse race. LaFleur and Weaver have both had second interviews, but the Cardinals have been tied to the 38-year-old OC the moment they fired former head coach Jonathan Gannon. After the Buffalo Bills hired offensive coordinator Joe Brady to be the next head coach, the Cardinals are one of three teams that remained without a head coach.

General manager Monti Ossenfort shouldn’t feel rushed by the news, as the Cleveland Browns haven’t fulfilled the Rooney rule yet, having to interview a minimum of two black coaches, while the Las Vegas Raiders seemed lasered in with Seattle Seahawks OC Klint Kubiak. Arizona seemed locked in at LaFleur, who has a hire desired to be a head coach in 2026.

With the Rams eliminated on Sunday, it looks to be only a matter of time before the franchise announce LaFleur as the next head coach, especially after the Campanile news. The long coaching search and interviews fit the style of the Cardinals organization, as many of their coaching search from the past decade had led to them being one of the last teams in the market.
