PHOENIX — With Arizona Diamondbacks second baseman Ketel Marte continuing to surface in trade discussions, there appears to be no deal close to moving the All-Star.

MLB Network insider Mark Feinsand reported that the Boston Red Sox are the team showing the most interest in acquiring Marte. While a potential return remains unclear, the Diamondbacks are expected to prioritize young pitching in any deal.
However, WEEI’s Rob Bradford reported that there is “nothing close” in terms of progress in the talks.

The update comes after right-hander Merrill Kelly re-signed with Arizona over the weekend, providing the Diamondbacks added stability in the rotation and potentially easing the urgency to pursue an MLB-ready starter. Marte’s value would give Arizona leverage in such a trade, and the Tampa Bay Rays were previously reported to have discussed a package including two starting pitchers in a potential deal that would send Marte to Florida.
Kelly’s return could signal a shift in Arizona’s approach.

Boston, meanwhile, has also considered listening to trade interest for outfielder Jarren Duran, a young All-Star known for his speed and left-handed production. The Diamondbacks are expected to address outfield needs ahead of next season, making Duran a possible target.
Marte’s market allows Arizona to seek a significant return, though a package centered on a center fielder and pitching prospects may not be what they’re seeking. The Diamondbacks need pitching depth at the major league level, rather than relying on arms that are still developing in the minors.
With no clear momentum in negotiations, Arizona may be holding out for a stronger offer or reevaluating its priorities.
