PHOENIX – The Diamondbacks aren’t rebuilding, but they sure are recalibrating. That distinction matters when evaluating a potential pursuit of Alex Bregman. According to MLB Insider Moccbomb and MLB Networks’ Jared Carrabis on X, the D-backs have been “lurking” in the possibility of signing Alex Bregman, as his future is murky in Boston.

Could Alex Bregman possibly end up in Arizona?
Sources: #DBacks have been “lurking” in the Alex Bregman sweepstakes. #DBacks were able to land star SP Corbin Burnes last year somewhat out of nowhere. #DBacks are a big threat here. #RedSox love Bichette…so keep an eye on that. #MoccBomb

I don’t feel super great about Bregman coming back, but these things are always subject to change. Bogaerts was pretty much a done deal to return until the Padres swooped in with a crazy offer. These situations are fluid. But, yeah. Doesn’t sound promising at the moment.

Arizona’s identity under Manager Torey Lovullo has been speed, pressure, and situational offense. Bregman doesn’t disrupt that; he sharpens it. Even in seasons when his raw power fluctuates, Bregman remains an elite on-base threat with postseason credibility. From a strategic standpoint, Arizona is better positioned than its perception suggests. Their farm system continues to feed affordable contributors, allowing payroll flexibility without sacrificing depth. Bregman wouldn’t block prospects; he would buy them time. That’s roster management, not indulgence.

Losing a third baseman like Eugenio Suárez last season leaves more than a defensive gap at third. It removes protection from the middle of the lineup. If Ketel Marte were to be traded, the Diamondbacks would lose not just a switch-hitting star but an emotional stabilizer. He brings lineup gravity and a reputation for preparation that resonates in young clubhouses.

For D-backs fans, this isn’t about chasing a name. It’s about signaling intent. The NL West is no longer a one-team narrative. Adding Bregman, would say the Diamondbacks believe their recent postseason success in 2023 wasn’t a peak, it was a preview. Arizona doesn’t need Alex Bregman to stay relevant. Signing him could help fill a need at third base, stabilize their lineup, and give fans a reason to believe the window is wide open, right now and beyond.
