According to MLB insider Héctor Gómez, Diamondbacks All-Star second baseman Ketel Marte will play for his home country in the tournament.

Much of the offseason has been dominated by rumors and speculation about whether the D-Backs will trade Marte. Several teams reportedly have interest, but nothing has been confirmed.
Still, news of his participation in the WBC comes as a positive development, especially given how openly he values his Dominican roots. Marte’s future with Arizona may be uncertain, but he now has another opportunity to represent his country on an international stage.

The All-Star is known for his power from both sides of the plate. With the Dominican roster beginning to take shape and several stars already committing, Marte’s addition only bolsters an already stacked team.
Marte and Perdomo aren’t the only Valley players set to compete in the tournament. Outfielder Corbin Carroll has declared he will play for Team USA, and catcher Gabriel Moreno has hinted he may join Team Venezuela.

In a month filled with reports on whether he’ll stay in the desert in 2026, Marte at least has something he can count on and something he can look forward to.
