On Wednesday afternoon, Rodríguez threw 6.1 scoreless innings, allowing two hits and striking out six in the Diamondbacks’ 5-3 win over the San Francisco Giants. This was the left-hander’s third straight win and he has only given up one run in his last 18.1 innings pitched.

After a grueling summer, it seems like Rodríguez has begun to turn a corner.

Over his last 15 starts, Rodríguez has a 4.09 ERA, a mark that remains higher than expected. However, it’s a sign of his improvement in recent weeks. Rodríguez’s season ERA was over 5.00 since April, but he has since lowered it to 4.98 after Wednesday’s win.

Rodríguez’s improvement comes at a crucial time for the D-Backs, as they continue to play for a chance to play in the playoffs next month. The latest surge in quality performances from struggling pitchers this year, including Zac Gallen and Brandon Pfaadt, hasn’t kept the Snakes out of playoff contention just yet.

While there’s still a long road ahead and the team will need wins along with help from other results, Rodríguez has helped put the Diamondbacks just 3.5 games back of the final NL Wild Card spot.

If Rodríguez can maintain his recent pitching form, he could be a key factor in Arizona’s push for a postseason appearance.

The Arizona Diamondbacks begin their next series on the road against the Minnesota Twins on Friday, Sept. 12, at 5:10 p.m.
