PHOENIX — The Arizona Diamondbacks completed a series win after blowing out the Cincinnati Reds on Saturday evening, 10-1, with the victory coming with an extra headline for the D-Backs.

D-Backs right-handed pitcher Jake Woodford was given a save after pitching 4.0 innings of relief. He gave up three hits, one earned run and had one strikeout.
Woodford’s save came with a surprising milestone for the Snakes.

The Diamondbacks have gone through many pitchers in their bullpen over the course of the season, most notably losing their two-punch relievers A.J. Puk and Justin Martinez. This has led the D-Backs to sign relievers and bring up pitchers from their Triple-A affiliate.
With no set roles in a never-ending amount of injuries, multiple pitchers have been asked to close for the Snakes throughout the course of the season. Woodford’s save on Saturday made him the 15th player this season to record a save for the D-Backs, a single-season MLB record.

As impressive as the record can be, it also showcases the season the Diamondbacks have had to endure this year. Losing two star relievers and Cy Young Award winner Corbin Burnes has reflected on the team’s record and performance.
However, after winning back-to-back series against playoff-contending teams, that record may be viewed differently. It could be reflective of the team’s endurance and grit. Even though the team lost major pieces at the trade deadline and players to injuries, they’re not out of playoff contention just yet.

The D-Backs have shown resiliency in this second half and will continue to pursue a playoff push, even if it takes a 16th player to record a save for the team.
