PHOENIX – The FanDuel Sportsbook located inside the Phoenix Suns’ Footprint Center will officially end in-person sports betting operations on July 24, according to signage posted outside the lounge this week.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe! The 7,400-square-foot space which opened shortly after Arizona legalized sports betting in 2021 will remain open as a FanDuel lounge, but wagers can no longer be placed onsite after that date. Customers holding unredeemed tickets will need to use FanDuel’s mail-in process to claim payouts.
A spokesperson did not offer an official reason for the shutdown, but financial data tells the story.

Betting volume failed to match expectations
As reported by The Arizona Republic’s Jason Wolf, the FanDuel location struggled to maintain profitability in recent months. Arizona Department of Gaming records show the lounge paid out more in winnings than it took in during four of the past six months.
Even during one of its few profitable months, FanDuel’s adjusted gross receipts totaled only $32,516. A figure that raised long-term viability concerns for a retail space in a premium arena location.

A pivot to experience over transaction
The decision comes as more sportsbook operators reassess the value of in-person betting versus mobile app usage, which has dominated the market. The remaining lounge space will be repurposed into an entertainment-focused FanDuel-branded area for offering drinks, food, and fan interaction without the ability to place bets.
