The Cardinals are one of 24 teams taking part in joint practices this year, and the Denver session will mark one of Arizona’s few live reps against outside competition before the regular season begins. Head coach Jonathan Gannon outlined the schedule during a media availability following the team’s minicamp this week.

Gannon on Cardinals practice schedule ahead of preseason game against Broncos:

“We’re just going to have one big one,” Gannon told reporters, via Cardinals Wire. “We’re going to practice with Denver Thursday. We’ll get there on Wednesday, practice on our own, practice Thursday versus Denver, Friday be on our own and then play them Saturday night.”

Because the Cardinals play on Saturday, their Friday “on our own” session is expected to be a walkthrough, standard across the league the day before games.

Gannon emphasized the unique benefits of the joint practice being held at altitude in Englewood.

“It’s at altitude, the first thing, so that will be a good training exposure for our guys,” he said. “Obviously, [Broncos head coach] Sean Payton is one of the best to do it. Their schemes are different than ours, all three phases. They’ve got really good players, a playoff team. It’s going to be a good joint practice for us. I’m looking forward to it.”

For the Cardinals, it’s a valuable preseason tune-up against a Denver squad that returned to the playoffs in 2024 under Payton with rookie quarterback Bo Nix at the helm. Arizona, meanwhile, is aiming to snap a four-year playoff drought and hasn’t won a postseason game since 2015.

Quarterback Kyler Murray is eyeing to secure his first playoff win of his career and has the talent on the roster to achieve. The six-year Cardinals quarterback is entering his third season with Gannon and both share the same expectation that the team can make some serious noise next season, which starts this preseason against a playoff-caliber team like the Broncos.
