Brandon Pfaadt let up a double early to Vladimir Guerrero Jr that scored Addison Barger to give Toronto an early 1-0 lead. Heading into the second, Ketel Marte helped Pfaadt out by making an incredible backhanded catch, as he made his case for the starting second baseman for the National League in the 2025 All-Star Game.

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. continued to show his dominance over the D-Backs as he blasted a home run to the left field upper deck. Arizona was able to get on the board though after Pavin Smith hit a pop-up that fell in center field, giving Josh Naylor enough time to get home and bring the Arizona lead to 2-1.

The D-Backs got back on top in the fifth inning after Ketel Marte was able to hit a single to center which led to a throwing error that brought Corbin Carroll in. Josh Naylor then hit a deep fly ball that went off the center field wall to score Ketel Marte as Arizona took a 3-2 lead. Eugenio Suarez kept the foot on the gas pedal as he was able to bring in another run in the seventh inning giving the D-Backs a 4-2 lead.

Arizona’s pitching gave them a chance to win on Tuesday. Brandon Pfaadt pitched five innings while only allowing two earned runs. Kyle Backhus, Ryan Thompson, and Juan Morillo all were on point. Unfortunately, the closing pitcher role still isn’t solidified and came back to haunt them as Shelby Miller gave up two home runs in the ninth inning as Toronto walked off the Arizona Diamondbacks by a score of 5-4.
