One of the major stories on Saturday wasn’t just the fall from grace Zac Gallen seems to be having, but the pitching struggles in general for the D-Backs. The National League’s worst team was able to pick and choose how they wanted to attack with ease on Saturday night.

Glaring pitching problems:

This Colorado Rockies team, with only seven wins, started today’s game with two home runs in the first inning, along with two more homers in the third inning. The D-Backs responded all day by punching back when they needed to. Arizona head coach Torey Lovullo let Gallen ride after giving up six earned runs in the first three innings, as he was able to calm down and settle in while figuring out his mistakes.

Jalen Beeks took over in the sixth inning and didn’t have a lot of luck against Colorado either, as the Diamondbacks’ pitching woes continued. Beeks and Ryan Thompson each only pitched 0.2 innings and gave up a combined seven hits and seven earned runs in the sixth and seventh innings.

What the Diamondbacks are taking advantage of is the lack of pitching on the Rockies’ side as well. The Snakes aren’t winning games on the back of only two of three guys, it is a team effort all the way around. They were able to fight back all night, including Eugenio Suárez and Alek Thomas hitting a pair of home run’s in the fourth inning.

In what was a back-and-forth, high-scoring affair, the D-Backs couldn’t complete the comeback after multiple setbacks due to inadequate outings on the mound for Arizona. The Diamondbacks will look to win the series tomorrow at Chase Field with first pitch being at 1:10 p.m. PT.
