PHOENIX – The Phoenix Suns now know the road ahead, as the NBA has released the 2026-27 NBA Schedule, and all of the massive key matchups that come with it.

The Suns’ schedule isn’t simply a list of 82 games. It’s a collection of checkpoints that could reveal exactly where this team stands. Phoenix opens the season Oct. 21 in Portland before returning home for its first game at Footprint Center on Oct. 24 against Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors. But the calendar gets serious almost immediately. Just three games into the season, the Suns travel to Oklahoma City for a rematch with the Thunder. That’s impossible to ignore after Oklahoma City swept Phoenix out of the first round. For the Suns, it represents an early opportunity to measure whether the offseason actually changed the gap between the two teams.

Then comes another familiar measuring stick. Phoenix hosts their rival, the Los Angeles Lakers, on Nov. 15, giving Suns fans their first home matchup against one of the franchise’s biggest rivals. The marquee games continue into winter, as the Suns travel to Dallas on Dec. 26 for a post-Christmas matchup with the Mavericks, while LeBron James and his new team, the Philadelphia 76ers, visit Phoenix on Dec. 30.

Four days later, Phoenix closes out 2026 against the defending champion New York Knicks on New Year’s Eve. That game could carry significance beyond the celebration surrounding it. By then, the Suns should have enough of a sample size to know whether they are legitimate contenders or still searching for answers.

Phoenix closes the regular season April 11 against the Lakers in Los Angeles. That could be just another regular-season game, or it could have playoff implications. That’s what makes this schedule fascinating. The biggest games aren’t necessarily the ones with the biggest names. They’re the games that answer questions. Can Phoenix close the gap with Oklahoma City? Can it win rivalry games? Can it compete against the league’s best? By April, Suns fans should have those answers, and that’s what makes the 2026-27 schedule matter.
