PHOENIX – Tuesday came with some news about star pitcher Corbin Burnes, as he received a cortisone shot for the first time in his career as he deals with a shoulder injury.

Burnes had been dealing with right shoulder inflammation over the past couple of weeks, althought he didn’t have any structural damage. This led to Burnes not fully making the move over to the injured list, though he was shut down for a little, more so just as a cautionary pause for now.

“We’re doing better, one of those things I’ve been throwing through the last three starts. Kind of naggy, achy that just wouldn’t go away and got worse once we got 60, 65 pitches in. The right call was to get over the hump now instead of being effective for three or four innings and then trying to grind through the last couple. I’d like to be effective for six or seven.”
So far on the 2025 season, Corbin Burnes has 3.58 ERA in six games and 32.2 innings pitched. He is coming off of a win in his last start back in New York last week against the Mets where Burnes pitched six innings and only gave up one earned run on four hits. After the MRI revealed that his injru was nothing more than inflamation, he joined right where he left off in his throwing programs and will seem to have a bullpen session on tomorrow. If Burnes is able to get through this without any lingering issues, he should be ready for the start on Sunday against the Los Angeles Dodgers:

“He was a little reluctant. He was like, I want to pitch, but I know if I don’t take care of this, there’s a chance it could linger and I don’t want anything to linger.’ … So we devised a plan and we’re sticking with that plan, and he bought into that. He wants the baseball. That’s who he is.”
The right-hander has continued his throwing program this week and will throw a bullpen session on Wednesday. If it all goes well, he will still be on track for Saturday night against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Arizona will surely be glad to have their $200 million dollar man back on the mound as quickly as possible.
