ESPN Senior NBA Insider Brian Windhorst addressed Phoenix Suns star Kevin Durant’s likely future with the franchise with a simple statement on Wednesday’s NBA Today episode.

After appearing on The Draymond Green Show and discussing why he thought it wasn’t the right timing to be traded to the Golden State Warriors, Durant’s tenure with the Suns is likely ending as early as this offseason.

“Well, they’re going to trade him,” Windhorst said plainly when asked what Phoenix is going to do this summer. “And (KD) knows that. There’s been a couple opportunities where he could’ve criticized them for trying too trade him and he has not done that. He has been very professional about this and I expect that to continue throughout the rest of the season.

“He’s going to try and win every game he’s out there. And then, in the offseason, he gave himself a little add there. He’s like ‘whatever team gets me, you know I’m going to make a difference, I’m still in my prime…’ KD is setting himself up for his last act. I think everyone’s intentions are crystal clear here.”

This comes after a trade deadline where Durant was inexplicably thrown into trade talks with the Warriors and declined to be traded there before Golden State made the move for Jimmy Butler.

Many feel that Phoenix listening to offers for the 36-year-old star seemingly out of nowhere tarnished their relationship. Regardless of what has transpired, Durant has made it known that not only does he not want to be traded from the Suns, but will play out his contract and revisit the idea of re-signing with the franchise once it is up in 2026.

The 15-time All-Star is eligible for a two-year extension this summer, but it is becoming increasingly less-likely that those preliminary discussions will ever unfold.
