“The latest round of commitments include some of the biggest names on the PGA TOUR,” Tournament Chairman Matt Mooney said via press release. “We can’t wait to see them out at ‘The People’s Open’ in February.”
The trio of golf pros are some of the most prominent names in the sport, with Horschel bringing in the group as the 16th ranked player on the circuit this season.
Horschel has played in both of the PGA Tour events this year, placing 51st in Hawai’i’s The Sentry tournament to tee off the year, and dropping to 84th in the Sony Open in Hawai’i over the weekend. He emerged back into the limelight last season, earning his eighth PGA Tour victory at the Corales Puntacana Championship in April and earning a spot in the Tour Championship. His seven top 10 finishes placed him at No. 23 on the circuit at the end of the season.
Thomas, often referred to as JT, is not far behind Horschel at No. 21.
The 31-year-old only appeared in one of the PGA Tour’s tournaments this season so far, besting Horschel with a 26th place finish at The Sentry. Thomas is currently two spots behind his 2024 season-ending ranking, earning four top 10 finishes, highlighted by a second place tie at the ZOZO CHAMPIONSHIP in Japan in October. It was his best finish since winning the PGA Tour Championship in 2022.
The final addition may be ranked lower than his fellow Phoenix Open contestants, but he’s probably one of the more recognizable names in golf in recent years.
Spieth sits at No. 80 currently on this year’s tour, having yet to make his debut in 2025. He carries his 2024 ranking into the new year, after bringing in three top 10 finishes in 2024, headlined by a third place finish in last year’s Sentry at the beginning of the year.
The three golfers join a talented group of pros in Arizona, including the PGA Tour’s No. 1 and No. 2 current athletes: Scottie Scheffler and Xander Schauffele.
“We are less than 20 days away and already the field for the 2025 WM Phoenix Open is shaping up to be one of the strongest in tournament history,” Mooney said.
The Phoenix Open will take place from Feb. 6-9 at TPC Scottsdale.
