Vogel was fired by Phoenix in May after the Suns finished his first and only regular season with a 49-33 record, good for the No. 6 seed in the Western Conference, but were swept in the first round by the Minnesota Timberwolves.
The Suns originally hired Vogel on June 2, 2023 after firing Monty Williams in May of that year. Vogel agreed to a 5-year, $31 million contract with the Suns when he was hired.
Vogel won the 2020 NBA Finals with the Lakers and has been the head coach of the Indiana Pacers (2010-16), Orlando Magic (2016-18), Lakers (2019-22) and Suns (2023-24), posting a 480-422 regular-season record across 12 NBA seasons as a head coach. He was previously an assistant for the Boston Celtics (2001-04), Philadelphia 76ers (2004-05) and Pacers (2007-10).
The Suns hired Mike Budenholzer as their new head coach just two days after Vogel’s firing, and the players are very excited to learn from him.
Phoenix plays Vogel’s Mavericks in its home opener on Oct. 26.
