The Diamondbacks salvaged the series finale, walking off the Milwaukee Brewers 11-10 in 10 innings at Chase Field. Despite getting knocked down multiple times throughout the game, Arizona continued to bounce back up and fought to the bitter end. Eugenio Suárez delivered the knockout punch, driving a ball off the right field wall to score the game-winner and record his third RBI of the day.

The game started nicely for Arizona, as they put two quick runs on Brewers starter DL Hall in the first. They scored five runs off the left-hander, the big hit coming from Pavin Smith in the third. Smith was a late addition to the lineup, as Randal Grichuk was scratched just hours before first pitch. Coming up with the bases loaded, he ripped a ground ball past a diving Rhys Hoskins and into the right field corner to clear them. At that point, the Diamondbacks led 5-0.

With a five-run lead and their ace on the mound, it was looking like a sure win for Arizona. However, the Brewers got to Zac Gallen in the fifth inning. With two on and no outs, Jackson Chourio barreled up Gallen’s curveball and lined a home run into the left field bleachers to make it 5-3. That was all the damage against Arizona’s ace, who allowed six hits and struck out seven through five grinding innings on the mound.

With another short start, the Diamondbacks were going to need their top relievers to come through and hold a close lead. That did not happen, as the otherwise dependable Kevin Ginkel surrendered four runs in the sixth and Ryan Thompson a tack-on run in the seventh. Eric Haase turned around a Ginkel fastball at the top of the zone to tie the game and Willy Adames hit a well-placed fly ball down the left field line for a two-run double to put Milwaukee ahead.

Despite trailing 8-5 going into the seventh, the Diamondbacks continued to battle against the Brewers bullpen. Josh Bell logged his first extra-base hit since August 13 when he drove a ball off the top of the home run porch to the left of center field, then came around to score on a Geraldo Perdomo single. Later in the inning, Grichuk came up as a pinch hitter and doubled home Perdomo to make it 8-7.

With a big inning coming up, the Diamondbacks turned to left-hander A.J. Puk for another shutdown inning, setting the stage for Corbin Carroll to tie the game with his speed. Drawing a leadoff walk against the flamethrower Trevor Megill, Carroll stole second and advanced to third with one out on a wild pitch. Suárez cashed in with a sacrifice fly to medium center to tie the game.

The score remained tied until extra innings. In his second inning of work, it looked like Justin Martinez was one out away from putting the Diamondbacks in position to win it in the bottom half of the 10th. However, he left a 100 MPH fastball in the middle of the strike zone to Chourio, who hit a hard grounder into the right field corner to put Milwaukee up 10-8. Left-hander Blake Walston came in after that and struck out Willy Adames to end the inning, earning his first career major league win when Arizona rallied in the bottom half of the inning.

With Devin Williams sidelined due to workload, having pitched in three of the previous five days, the Diamondbacks took advantage of Jared Koenig in the 10th. They sent five batters to the plate, all of them reaching. Adrian Del Castillo had a big left-on-left hit to bring them within a run and Christian Walker took a fastball that hit his elbow guard with the bases loaded that tied the game. That set up Suárez to play the role of hero for the day, as he’s now at 95 RBI for the season.
