Diamondbacks outfielder Randal Grichuk has been scratched from the lineup on Sunday. In the original version of the lineup, he was set to start in left field and bat third against the left-hander DL Hall. Instead, Pavin Smith will get the start and bat 8th.

Losing Grichuk ahead of a key game could be problematic, especially if it’s an injury. He’s been an important bat against left-handed pitching, with a .301/.366/.484 slash against them. FanGraphs rates him as 35% better than the average hitter against that split with a 135 wRC+. Also the dropoff from Grichuk to Smith defensively also plays a role in the cavernous outfield at Chase Field.

In the latest injury update, it appeared the Diamondbacks were getting healthier but it seems there is no end to all the setbacks.

Stay tuned for more updates.
