The “Villanova” New York Knicks are apparently also becoming the “Phoenix Suns” Knicks with another reported signing of a former Sun.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the Knicks agreed to a one-year contract with Landry Shamet Tuesday, who played with new Knicks Mikal Bridges and Cameron Payne on the Suns in the 2021-22 and 2022-23 seasons. Another former Sun on the Knicks roster is Keita Bates-Diop, who was acquired by New York in the Bridges trade and played for Phoenix in the first half of last season before being traded to Brooklyn.

Shamet became a free agent this summer after the Washington Wizards declined his $11 million team option. Phoenix sent Shamet to Washington in the Bradley Beal trade last summer along with Chris Paul and multiple draft picks. He appeared in 46 games for the Wizards (five starts), averaging a career-low 7.1 points and 33.8% shooting from 3 in only 15.8 minutes per game.
The Suns originally signed Shamet to a four-year, $43 million rookie contract extension before he even played a game with them in Oct. 2021. Phoenix acquired Shamet in Aug. 2021 from the Brooklyn Nets in exchange for the rights No. 29 overall pick in that year’s draft (ended up being Day’Ron Sharpe) and guard Jevon Carter.
Shamet never materialized as the scorer Phoenix wanted behind Devin Booker off the bench, averaging 8.4 points on only 38.7% shooting from the field across 109 games (23 starts) in his two seasons in the Valley.
Shamet, 27, will be entering his seventh season in the NBA next year.
