PHOENIX — Former Phoenix Suns guard Landry Shamet has been waived by the Washington Wizards after they reportedly declined his $11 million option for next season.

The news was reported by ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

Phoenix sent Shamet to Washington in the Bradley Beal trade last summer along with Chris Paul and multiple draft picks. He appeared in 46 games for the Wizards (five starts), averaging a career-low 7.1 points and 33.8% shooting from 3 in only 15.8 minutes per game.

The Suns originally signed Shamet to a four-year, $43 million rookie contract extension before he even played a game with them in Oct. 2021. Phoenix acquired Shamet in the summer of 2021 from the Brooklyn Nets in exchange for the rights No. 29 overall pick in that year’s draft (ended up being Day’Ron Sharpe) and guard Jevon Carter.

Shamet never materialized as the scorer Phoenix wanted behind Devin Booker off the bench, averaging 8.4 points on only 38.7% shooting from the field across 109 games (23 starts) in his two seasons in the Valley.

Shamet, 27, will be entering his seventh season in the NBA next year.
